I also want to write down my own reviews to books. Kinda too scared to put them on actual sites because I've read some AND the comments. Some of those people are not nice. Mainly the ones who leave the comments. Here we go with mine. It is a romance novel. After I re-read the book I threw it across the room and it hit the door. It felt so good to do that!!!
Dangerous to Kiss by Elizabeth Thornton (C) 1995 bantamdell.(com)
Read: 05/09/17- 05/10/17
Lead Hero/Love Interest: Mr. Gray
Lead Heroine: Deborah
Once again a stupid romance. The male is at least 10 years her senior and she is 24. EW! He keeps calling her girl. And she herself girl as well. She is way attached to the little boy who is 8, I think. And the hero, heroine, and hero's brother give too much like humor to the boy.
"You don't want to sleep with a candle?"
"No. I'm not a baby anymore."
"Of course not."
Whatever! She has such a motherly instinct! (I'm being sarcastic here!)
He does not consulate her in regards of how to take care of the boy who is both their ward. He kidnaps, or abducts, her but first puts up a false front: the Good "Mr. Gray". Not really and gets to sleep in the same room as her "to break her". They both believe the other murdered the boy's father, Mr. Gil. She has not trust in men because of her father and believed her brother betrayed her. I understand and how the law of England only benefits men not woman, I get it. He on the other hand says she is, not call her stupid, but completely dismisses her feelings and thoughts. He has no real empathy for what she has been through and just gets mad at her. After the abduction and they find out neither of them is the killer, he said the two men that helped him " are coming and I expect you to treat them with cordiality and respect." He tells her to "wipe from your mind the events of these last few days as though they had never really happened." In the same or so scene she gets mad but he like brings attention that the murderer is till after them and her anger at what she suffered under him gives way to protecting herself and the boy. Yeah. Dismiss her feelings at what happened.
The male is overbearing, wanting the female to obey him in everything.
My quote- "What I say and do is always right."
Or he will thrash her/strangle her. But "I swear I am a gentleman but you have this affect on me for some reason." And always "You will see my reason is always for your own good, forget about your thoughts and smarts.
Around the same time he says "we have more to discuss then your petty grievances." I guess her feelings of being terrorized and her fear of him are just nothing. Like it never happened.
Also the guy wants to marry her off. To a nice young gentleman, like she deserves. So he is looking out for her? Has a harsh way of showing it. And this one female she knows is putting the hero in a good light. "Oh, he bought you clothes so you would have something nice to wear." and "You can take that stubborn look off you face." and "...you should be grateful that he went to so much trouble." It's like every character says this- "He is a good guy. I know he did bad things to you but deep down he is a good guy and you should forgive him. I know you should and will be nice to him. You are too stubborn and don't know any better." Or something like that.
Really weird scene in Ch. 11, you can see her already falling for the hero even though it's only been a few days since the abduction. As usual he throw in his family, his mother and younger sisters. They stay at his family house since he is the head of the family being the older male. Oh and the mother mentions no to fall for her son and she is like " What?" Because for some reason women end up falling for him but he is a rake and has a house he keeps for his current mistress, when he has one. But he is a good man and will be a good husband when he find the right woman.
It's like the romance in just thrown in to cover an emotionally abusive male hero that can save the brave yet hurt oh but so smart heroine. The romance is like non-existent. How the hell did these two fall in love? Oh but they have sex and the male is like "I will do the right thing since I took your innocence and marry you. It's the only way." So gentlemanly! But she does not want to marry for reasons. And he is furious about that and is always bringing up marriage with her. The first smut is close to rape because he brings her to his room, she was thrown over his shoulder, but he intends to "put you over my knee and beat the defiance out of you."
And then he says if she wants a lover it will be him. When she says it is none of his business who she chooses to be with if she even wants a lover. But he says if she does get a lover he will know she is fair game. The the firs smut scene happens.
I don't want to do the calculations but I think everything takes place in like 2-3 months or so. When the murder happens t when the hero found the whereabouts of the heroine.
pg. 287 "He was sure now, very sure, that he had finally overcome the mistrust and suspicion that dogged them since he had abducted her."/ "She might not know it yet, but he had already won the war."
Just done with this book!
